Project Overview
Challenge
BHP and Rio Tinto formed a joint consortium to solve a real industry problem; safer, lower-risk tailings management. The output was a 132 page study guide and a companion white paper, written by technical experts. No existing style guide, no design system, two major mining companies whose names were on every page.
Solution
Built the visual rules from scratch. Hierarchy that made dense, multi-phase technical content easy to follow under time pressure. Word and PowerPoint templates the consortium could keep using long after the project ended.
Outcome
Both documents are now used as reference material across the mining industry and circulated at international conventions. Work built to last well beyond the brief.
